A tyre check is more than recording tread depth. Confirm size, load and speed ratings, production dates, construction, pressure specification, repair history, wheel runout and alignment behaviour, then price a locally supportable replacement path.
Identify every fitted tyre and wheel
Photograph the complete sidewall and wheel at each position. Record brand, pattern, size, load index, speed rating, production date, homologation marks and whether the tyre is original-equipment, replacement, repaired or mismatched. Compare the delivered wheel and tyre size with a reliable specification for the exact market and trim; the new global BEV and older PHEV should not borrow one another's data. Inspect wheel part markings, valve type, pressure sensors and any spacer or non-standard fastener. Confirm the presence and expiry of sealant, compressor or spare equipment supplied with the vehicle.
Record four-position tyre identity against the candidate VIN, test date and operating conditions. State what remains untested and who must close it before the vehicle advances.
Measure wear as a geometry record
Measure tread at inner, centre and outer positions on all four tyres, and map cupping, feathering, flat spots, shoulder wear, cuts, bulges and sidewall abrasion. Uneven wear can indicate pressure history, toe, camber, worn joints, bent wheels, collision repair or long storage. A newly installed pair removes old evidence, so request the reason and previous alignment report. Lift the vehicle to check bearings, bushes, arms, dampers, springs and underbody strike points. Do not accept “alignment completed” without before-and-after measurements and a road test.

Road-test steering, vibration and braking
Set pressures correctly and test on a safe, representative surface. Record steering-centre position, straight-line tracking, return-to-centre, noise and vibration by speed, acceleration and braking. A wheel-balance problem, tyre uniformity issue, bent rim, bearing or driveshaft concern can produce different but overlapping symptoms. Confirm that the vehicle remains stable during moderate braking and that pressure monitoring identifies each wheel correctly. If the road surface or traffic prevents a useful test, label the limitation rather than describing the candidate as smooth.

Assess efficiency and destination suitability
Tyre pressure, compound, width, mass and alignment can materially change energy use. Do not convert one short dashboard result into a range promise. Confirm that the size, load rating and suitable seasonal specification can be purchased at the destination, and consider road quality and climate. An uncommon imported tyre may make a cheap candidate expensive to support. If a replacement set is needed, budget four compatible tyres, valves or sensors, fitting, balance and alignment rather than one visibly damaged corner.
Record destination replacement availability against the candidate VIN, test date and operating conditions. State what remains untested and who must close it before the vehicle advances.
Approve the delivered configuration
Write the accepted tyre and wheel specification into the candidate record and contract. State whether replacements occur in China or after arrival, who owns removed parts and which pressure values will be used during storage and shipping. Recheck torque, pressure and warnings at handover. Where wear suggests collision or suspension damage, complete the structural and chassis inspection before approval. Reject wheels with unresolved cracks, unsafe repairs or fitment that cannot be registered locally.

Record the approval decision
Approve the tyre and wheel package when all four positions are identified, wear agrees with geometry evidence, road behaviour is stable and the delivered specification is legal and supportable at the destination. Pause for unexplained new tyres, cracked or repaired wheels, persistent vibration or missing alignment evidence.
Retain the approval with the VIN file and reopen the review whenever the candidate, destination or commercial boundary changes.

Should all four tyres be the same model?
Matching construction, size and comparable wear provides the clearest basis; investigate any mix before approval.
Can new tyres hide suspension damage?
Yes. Ask why they were replaced and verify geometry, joints and prior wear evidence.
Do tyres materially affect EV range?
Pressure, compound, width, mass, temperature and alignment can all affect consumption, but one factor should not be turned into a fixed range claim.
