Understand the Thai NEVO Q05 clearance reference, loaded ramp checks, battery protection and why earlier Qiyuan Q05 PHEV data must stay separate.
Start with a correctly labelled reference
The official Thailand BEV sheet provides a 170 mm clearance reference. Keep that figure beside its source market and specification date, not beside a generic Q05 badge. It is not a measurement of your used candidate or a promise that every protective panel sits at that height. Ask which measurement method and loading condition apply if the seller supplies a different number. Modified springs, different tyres, missing underbody panels and accident repairs can change the practical result. Record production identity before treating a discrepancy as a defect. The NEVO versus Qiyuan model-identity file explains why a PHEV listing cannot inherit the BEV reference.
Measure the route before measuring the car
Photograph the driveway transition, ramp crest and bottom transition from the side. Include a scale and record the narrowest usable track, ramp gradient and any drainage channel or abrupt edge. A single steepness percentage does not describe a sharp crest: wheelbase, bumper overhang and the shape of the transition also matter. Identify where a loaded car is most likely to touch rather than assuming the centre clearance solves every problem. Ask a competent local operator to assess awkward entrances. Never position a person beneath a moving vehicle or a vehicle supported only by a jack. A rough sketch with dimensions is more useful than a wide-angle phone photograph.
Reproduce the intended passenger and luggage load
A meaningful demonstration uses the intended seating occupancy and representative luggage within the candidate loading limits. Record tyre specification and pressure, suspension condition and load placement. Compare the same fixed measuring points before and after loading, on level ground, without crawling under an unsupported vehicle. Do not extrapolate one passenger test to a full family and heavy cargo. A lower ride height may be expected under load, while uneven height or excessive sag needs inspection. Preserve a record of what was actually tested. The boot-space and family-use guide helps define the luggage arrangement before this check is attempted.
Inspect protection rather than accepting cosmetic reassurance
Request clear stationary images of the battery enclosure, guards, mounting points, lower bumper edges and any scrape marks. A scratch on a replaceable trim piece is different from a dent near a battery enclosure or damaged mounting structure. Ask an appropriately qualified technician to assess consequential damage; paint or underseal can obscure its extent. Do not accept an added skid plate as proof that the underlying structure is sound or that the accessory is approved. Record whether repairs or accessories alter servicing access, cooling or vehicle weight. Use the Q05 accident and battery-repair checks when the inspection reveals more than superficial contact.
Separate road access from rough-terrain suitability
Successfully crossing one speed hump does not establish suitability for broken roads, water crossings or repeated impacts. The battery-electric Q05 should be assessed for the actual road surface and manufacturer operating limits. Floodwater depth cannot be inferred from clearance, and neither a brochure nor a video supplies an approved wading limit. If the route routinely causes contact, change the route or shortlist instead of assuming a tyre or suspension modification is harmless. Assess any proposed modification for fit, load capacity, registration implications and service support. Prioritise avoiding contact over trying to make an unsuitable daily route appear acceptable during a short demonstration.
Keep an access decision with the purchase record
The useful output is a short route-specific decision: confirmed access under a named loading condition, a remaining check, or an entrance that is unsuitable. Attach the route measurements, vehicle identity, tyre record and demonstration date. Name who owns any unresolved question before payment. If the selected VIN changes, repeat the relevant checks instead of applying the previous result to another car with the same badge. For remote purchases, consider a conditional approval tied to a competent inspection and destination assessment. The used Q05 inspection checklist should retain underbody findings, while the commercial brief records whether route access is an essential purchase requirement.
Buyer approval checklist
Use these fields as a candidate-specific decision record. Assign each unresolved item before approving payment or shipment.
- Correct BEV market sheet and candidate identity
- Ramp transitions and usable track measured
- Passenger and luggage condition recorded
- Tyre and suspension condition checked
- Underbody concerns assessed before approval

Is every Q05 guaranteed to have 170 mm clearance?
No. That is a Thailand BEV specification reference, not proof for every market, loaded candidate or earlier PHEV.
Does sufficient ground clearance mean it can cross floodwater?
No. Ground clearance does not establish a safe water-crossing limit or protect against hidden damage.
